Herstories Travel Guide:
Michigan Women's Historical Center welcomes you
Rising from the heart of a gorgeous community garden, the Michigan Women's Historical Center preserves a wealth of information.
Housed in the historic Cooley-Haze House, the Center's collection includes 420 artifacts, 11 paintings, a postcard and stamp collection, a costume collection with items dating back to the 1800s.
Enter through the door and you'll be greeted by a friendly volunteer, who will guide you through rooms filled with interesting displays and memorabilia. On display through September is "Michigan Women A to Z," an alphabetical overview of many accomplishments and contributions made by Michigan women in areas ranging from aviation to government, journalism to lighthouse keepers, and Olympians to veterans.
In the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame, you'll learn about Michigan's most accomplished and prominent women, those who made a difference on the local and national level. Each brief biography is accompanied by photos of the honorees, who are announced annually.
"Michigan Women A to Z" is generously sponsored by: The Estate of the Late Virginia Allan, the Capital Region Community Foundation - Greater Lansing Fund, Marian Ilitch, Woman's Life Insurance Society, Chelsea Milling Company, Friends of the Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame, Fraser, Trebilcock, Davis, and Dunlap, P.C., Michigan Education Association, Michigan Coalition for Equal Rights Studies, Florine Mark, Joyce Powers, Mary Ellen Sheets, Ila Smith, and Shirley Zeller.
