Before we start this long, holiday weekend, I just had to share with you a collection of stories and news items that have found their way into my e-mail box over the past few weeks. Some of this material is time-sensitive, and we don't want to miss out on an opportunity to promote these worthy events and offerings.

Our FEATURED story includes an invitation for any woman interested in running for office, running an election campaign or serving in other positions of political leadership. The White House Project, which has a Michigan office in Grand Rapids, is offering its GO RUN training in Saginaw this month. This is valuable training from an organization whose only aim is to put more women in positions of leadership - take advantage!

Our good friend Cindy La Ferle is back with a wonderful SOMEWHERE IN THE MIDDLE column that will touch any mother who has watched her child grow up and move out of the house. Cindy's thoughtful, touching columns are also featured every Thursday in The Oakland Press. Be sure to check into her home office as well, to keep up with her work.

If you are unemployed or know someone who is, you'll want to read what consultant Ronda Freeman has to say about fields where help is needed now more than ever. We're also celebrating with a woman-owned franchise celebrating its 25th year of helping children connect with technology; the story's in BIZ.

Finally, be sure to check out the calendar of events updates in NETWORK - lots of interesting and worthwhile events are on tap, including Oakland Community College Womenscenter's annual Self-Defense class. This is a great opportunity to boost your child's self-confidence before she leaves for college or a new job.

I hope you have time to spend a few minutes with us, and please take a moment to celebrate our nation's 233rd birthday. America has come an extraordinary distance in a relatively short time. Just imagine where we'll go from here.

Enjoy!
